The Evolution of Religion II conference will be held at the Tamaya Hyatt Regency Resort on the Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico.
The Santa Ana pueblo land is a sovereign state. There are somewhat more than 800 tribal members of whom about 500 live in the pueblo. When on the 79,000 acres of Santa Ana tribal land, one is not in the state of New Mexico. By treaty, the United States government holds title to the Santa Ana pueblo land in trust for the tribe. Many of the Santa Ana people are bilingual and speak English as well as their native Keresan language. The tribe is governed by a tribal council comprised of all the pueblo’s heads of households. A Governor and Lt. Governor are appointed each year by the tribal council. The tribe has a casino, the Santa Ana Star and several other businesses that are on tribal land not too far away from the Tamaya. Other new businesses are currently in development and under construction. By Native American standards, the Santa Ana people are prosperous today with a median household income of $52,519. Many tribal members work at the Tamaya. A history of the Santa Ana people, the pueblo and the history of Tamaya is in a book of the same name.
